Naugatuck River Greenway, I
Comfortable weather for my first bicycle ride of the year!
I would have already taken the bike out a few weeks ago, but I thought I had an unrepairable punctured tire - I couldn’t initially inflate it with my pump and I’m not going to patch it at home (I’ll save that nonsense for the road). Anyway, it turned out that I just didn’t know how to work with Presta Valves and it turned out that everything was fine.
Torrington is a little rough for road-biking, and as for ‘rails-to-trails’ there is only the Sue Grossman Still River Greenway but it is not very long and not very close to downtown. The Naugatuck River Greenway does start in the downtown district [there are plans to connect it to the Sue Grossman - but that is on the Still River, so would it be part of the Naugatuck trail?] Anyway, pending future development, the trail will eventually continue to the town of Derby, Connecticut.
This section of the trail was nice enough, however. I had already seen the overview on the map so the ‘dead ends’ didn’t confuse me. It was not heavily trafficked but, of course, there were a few instances to offer right of way to pedestrians and their children.
I only got off the bike to take a few pictures and walk up one short hill [seen on the map spike below], only because I didn’t get it in the right gear in time.
Overall, a nice forty-minute ride.
The pictures were not the priority but i took a few at the pivotal locations.
