A.C.T. XIII

This is a ‘recreated’ post written on 16 August 2024. I recently went disc golfing with an old friend, my rival, JumboC. We discussed many of the old times playing in the Amateur Challenge Tournament (ACT) and I had nothing on here to reference as they were all on Facebook. This post will be a placeholder where I’ll put in the deteriorated pictures I’ve downloaded from there, until a time when I’ll add context about the day.

This tournament was the ACT’s thirteenth, but the seventh in which we participated.

The rivalry was put off this year due to the fact I had an arm injury that forced me to play left handed. Since JumboC declined to match me in this regard, I am, and probably always will be, the title holder of left-handed tournament champion.

I would have chosen to play in the Recreational division if I knew I’d be throwing off hand, but it was too late to change. My first round score of 43 in the Intermediate division put me in a bottom tier group. Interestingly, that group included two women playing in their own Advanced division.

My first round score of 80 was rather impressive… for throwing left-handed, something I had never done before and most certainly awkward to say the least. I have no idea why the guy keeping score circled my count of ‘6’ on the first hole. I do not know what I threw in the second round. I believe I was drinking so let’s say it was not as good.

Driving times are approximate:

  • Hartford = 0h, 15m.

  • Tolland = 0h, 20m.

  • New Haven = 0h, 45 m.

  • Torrington = 0h, 55m.

  • New London = 1h, 0m.

  • Boston = 1h, 35m.

  • NYC = 2 h, 30m.
