A.C.T. XIV
This is a ‘recreated’ post written on 16 August 2024. I recently went disc golfing with an old friend, my rival, JumboC. We discussed many of the old times playing in the Amateur Challenge Tournament (ACT) and I had nothing on here to reference as they were all on Facebook. This post will be a placeholder where I’ll put in the deteriorated pictures I’ve downloaded from there, until a time when I’ll add context about the day.
Sunday, 3 June 2018This tournament was the ACT’s fourteenth, but the eighth in which we participated.
My injury from last year was long gone, I felt good, and my rivalry with JumboC was back on!
I obviously started my day pregaming with Miller Life but this was right about the time I discovered ‘craft beer’ and was luck enough to sample a few from a local brewery sponsor a little later in the day.
I didn’t have a great first round, coming in to break/lunch with a 75. I was a little sad that I was just off the mark at two behind JumboC and wouldn’t be paired with him like we were many time before, but the pizza and Firefly Hollow Brewing Company Beer really lifted my spirit. I played with a great bunch of guys and was just behind Jumboc’s group which helped me keep apprised of his status.
Although JumboC had always thrown better in the second rounds of this tournament, this time was the exception and I caught him for us to end in a tie.
The only text that was originally posted on Facebook was for the final picture in the gallery above that shows only discs on the ground and a pin tucked behind a tree in the background:
“I’m the furthest away from the pin (white disc), but it beats being out-of-bounds to the left.”
