Eastern States Exhibition, I
Note, this was written in September 2024 to recreate a post which was lost. Old computer(s), Google Drive, Facebook, etc. were all searched for context, but not much was able to be recovered. We will try to add some details, but as our memories have faded, this may well be all that we have left of that moment in time.
We went to the Eastern States Exhibition fairgrounds to see what “The Big E” had to offer, for the first time as a family. The day’s theme was “Rhode Island Day / Salute to Holyoke.” I don’t know the attendance on the day we went, but the Saturday saw 170,612 - a record for the time. [Spoiler: we were at the largest attended day “ever” eight years later when there was 178,000+… two years prior at the time of writing this.]

What I can remember much, so from looking at the only three pictures I could find, I can deduce:
For some reason I don’t have picture of the actual “Bear Show,” but Nicole and her son posed with a ‘replica.’
We posed in front of the “Welcome to Connecticut” sign in the ‘Connecticut State House’ on the Avenue of States.
Being middle of the week, it was a pleasant day.
Driving time are approximate:
Hartford = 0 h, 35 m.
Tolland = 0 h, 45 m.
Torrington = 1 h, 0 m.
New Haven = 1 h, 15 m.
New London = 1 h, 20 m.
Boston = 2 h, 0 m
NYC = 3 h, 15 m.
The fun didn’t stop here, however, and we spent the evening at the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest in Torrington. You can see that adventure in the aptly named post, Oktoberfest - Torrington (2022).
