Eastern States Exhibition, II

Note, this was written in September 2024 to recreate a post which was lost. Old computer(s), Google Drive, Facebook, etc. were all searched for context, but not much was able to be recovered. We will try to add some details, but as our memories have faded, this may well be all that we have left of that moment in time.

We went to the Eastern States Exhibition fairgrounds to see what “The Big E” had to offer, for the third time[?]. Of course, we chose to go on a ‘busy’ Saturday and shuffled around with 177,786 other people. Fun, right?

What I can remember much, except for noticing how busy it was. Only later did we realize it set an attendance record. At some point there, the GPS was showing we walked for two-miles in two-hours, and that was a pretty good clip in that crowd. I ‘redrew’ our route in red on the first collage picture of the gallery below.

Anyway, so from looking at the pictures:

  1. I ‘had to stop’ at the Harpoon Beer Hall.

  2. I checked out a few vendors, one of which sold leather goods. I had wanted to see if I could find a belt buckle so I don’t wear out my favorite on the Turtle gave me a few years ago.

  3. Nicole ‘had to stop’ to get mini-dounts.

  4. While walking along the “Avenue of States” which contains all of the New England statehouse replicas, I ate a lobster roll [probably cost $100].

Driving time are approximate:

  • Hartford = 0 h, 35 m.

  • Tolland = 0 h, 45 m.

  • Torrington = 1 h, 0 m.

  • New Haven = 1 h, 15 m.

  • New London = 1 h, 20 m.

  • Boston = 2 h, 0 m

  • NYC = 3 h, 15 m.

The fun didn’t stop here, however, and we spent the evening at the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest in Torrington. You can see that adventure in the aptly named post, Oktoberfest - Torrington (2022).
