Boston: October 4, 2019
Note, this was written in August 2024 to recreate a post which was lost. Old computer(s), Google Drive, Facebook, etc. were all searched for context, but not much was able to be recovered. We will try to add some details, but as our memories have faded, this may well be all that we have left of that moment in time.
1:00 PM - 10:00 PM, 4 October 2019
Nicole and I were doing a little sightseeing while we were in town. I could remember one of the pubs we went to so I looked it up through my Google Maps App history… I personally make my maps-path spot on, but [for it being over five years ago now] their offering is pretty good. Big brother remembers well indeed.
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
Boston Common
The Boston Common is centrally located in the downtown so everything kind of radiates from it. We always come here and have many posts with pictures from the green, not many this day, however, we just passed through. I was nice to take in the beauty of autumn air in an urban jungle.
1:15 PM
New England Historic Genealogy Society
We didn’t go into the N.E.G.H.S. this day, but Nicole posed in front of the Mayflower model. Everyone in-the-know was getting ready for the quatercentenary celebrations only a year away!
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Some of the middle of the day was spent on the Charles River, see that adventure in it’s own post, Duck Boat Tour, I.
4:15 PM - 5:15 PM
The Black Rose
The Black Rose is Irish bar and should be a staple of any trip to North Boston.
5:30 PM
Long Wharf at Boston Harbor
Right around the corner from The Black Rose is Long Wharf. Nicole’s 12th-Great-Grandfather, John Alden, and others, sailed into Plymouth Harbor on the Mayflower in 1620 [why we took the picture above] and then one of mine, Thomas Dudley, 2nd Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, sailed into here on the Arbella in 1630. I have many other ancestors that worked on these docks, one that was a Harbor Pilot, and some that died on the nearby islands. This is my sea.
5:45 PM - 7:45 PM
Durty Nelly’s
Every since I learned that the Boston had a Durty Nelly’s [I was at the original in Ireland, 1986], I try to get a pint every time I pass by. Interestingly, you can see the Haymarket scales right outside the window… and they need calibration!!
8:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Paddy O’s
And another Irish pub in Boston, Paddy O’s is a stop[ I’ve been to on a few Saint Patrick’s Days before.
Mugar Omni Theater at the Museum of Science.
The Mugar Omni Theater at the Museum of Science is one of those “IMAX” type immersive theaters. You almost feel as you could fall straight to the bottom because it is so steep. The have a large rest-room as well.

We were in Boston to go to an autumn "volksfest," a people's festival, the following day, but there is always lots to things to do while there.
See [or click on] the posts, Boston Duck Boats, I, here or above in the timeline; Oktoberfest - Harpoon (2019) was the next day.
