Brewery Legitimus, XVII

1:00 PM Sunday, 21 July 2024

The temperature was perfect, 79°F with a 'real-feel' of 90°F, the beer was cold, and the first pour I had, Rage Against the Teddy Bear, hit harder than the 7.8% ABV would indicate. A good thing I suppose.

Nicole and I originally had plans to hit the beach but decided to go down to Brewery Legitimus for a beer instead. It had been a minute since we were here together, and there was no real reason for the lengthy absence. It’s possible the newer Bad Dog Brewery in Torrington was just closer, but we almost always go there spontaneously and if they were not around, probably wouldn’t have gone out at all.

It was great to see the lengthy line-up of brews, they have come a long way since the three they had on our first trip in 2016. Interestingly, I don’t think they offer those beers anymore, not sure, the Counter Surfer was an early release however, we had that on our second visit.

The glare/exposure of looking back towards the windows was a little tough on the eyes, and can also be seen in a few pictures. If given the opportunity, I’d recommend tinted window film, but maybe it’d be too dark in the winter?

I mentioned in a previous post that I wasn’t sure if the #BeerItForward board was still in use, but it looks like it’s nearer to the bar now. I’m sure the couple slips I put up are long gone, but since mine [and most] had somewhat specific criteria, I’ll have to see if it’s still there one of these days.

The new back room expansion isn’t always open to the public but it is quite large. They told us we could take a look and offered to turn the lights on but we only wanted a peak so it was OK. It is primarily used for private events, holiday celebrations, and other days when they would bring bands in. Another use will be their anniversary party coming up sometime in the Fall.

I am definitely getting a beer stein, maybe they let us drink from it on Oktoberfest!

Since we know what it was like here when they opened, we kind of compare everything to that experience. It really does look great now, and has for quite some time really.

Unfortunately, unlike many other breweries in the state, Legitimus doesn’t participate in the 2024 Connecticut Field Trip Passport, nor the Hop Passport program, two promotional discount books for discovering craft beers.

Even though there is no passport program here, we still keep coming back.
