Willimantic Brewing, I
Note, this was written in July 2024 to recreate a post which was lost. Old computer(s), Google Drive, Facebook, etc. were all searched for context, but not much was able to be recovered. We will try to add some details, but as our memories have faded, this may well be all that we have left of that moment in time.
Willibrew operates in what used to be a post office and has that ‘huge presence’ feel inside. There is a ton of seating but I remember we couldn’t even get to the bar [or a table] on this Thursday. I do remember my friend getting extra Oy-Vey sauce cups to go.
It was a bad sign [for us, great for the establishment] that we coudn’t park in their lot, or the expansion. It’s in the middle of the city, so some street parking if you can get it.
“Our original Main Street Café was founded in 1991, and began operations as a small deli in the old Capitol Theatre building on Main Street in Willimantic, CT. Occupying both the lobby and concession area of the theatre, seating was limited to 50 people. After 3 years we were bursting at the seams and made the move to 877 Main Street, another historic building. There we expanded to a full service restaurant and featured American craft-brewed beers and an extensive menu.”
